Application and Deadlines – Certificate and Master’s Degree
The Department of Atmospheric Sciences welcomes potential students to apply for the graduate certificate or master’s degree in Weather and Climate Risk and Data Analytics. Applications are accepted at any time for both the certificate and master’s degree. Students’ undergraduate major and professional experience will be considered as part of the application process.
Requirements for admission are:
- Bachelor’s degree, ideally in atmospheric sciences, meteorology, oceanography, or in a related field such as physics, mathematics, computer science, engineering. The degree must be from an accredited college in the United States or an approved institution of higher learning abroad.
- GPA of 3.0 (out of 4.0) or higher for the last 60 semester hours in a Bachelor’s program.
The GRE is no longer required for admission. Students who do not meet the above degree criterion and/or GPA criterion may still be eligible for consideration and should contact Dr. Alicia Klees, Online Program Faculty Coordinator, aklees@illinois.edu, to determine their possible eligibility and/or potential options.
Priority review will be given to applications completed before the stated deadlines, but applications will be accepted until one week before the start of the semester. Applications submitted after the semester begins are automatically designated to the next admission cycle at top priority for admission consideration. Students may take courses in non-degree status while their application is in review or if admitted for the next closest term. This allows students to make progress while they wait for full admission. The Atmospheric Sciences Department looks forward to the working with all students to meet their personal and professional goals!
